SARTELL - Eden Prairie Police have confirmed that human remains found north of Sartell in Mississippi River Park are those of Mandy Matula.

The cause of death was likely a single gunshot wound to the head.

The remains were found by a hiker at Mississippi River park at 1 p.m. yesterday

WJON spoke to Matula's brother, Steven Matula earlier today. He confirms that a ring she wore and a University of Minnesota piece of clothing was found with the remains. The clothing had the number 14 on it, which was Mandy's number on the softball team. With these items, Steven said the family was certain the remains were Mandy.

Steven adds that the family will likely visit the park sometime this week.

The park had been a focal point of the search for Mandy Matula after she went missing May 1. She was last seen that day leaving her Eden Prairie home with her ex-boyfriend, David Roe.

Roe fatally shot himself in a police department parking lot the next day after he was called in for questioning about Matula's disappearance.
