ELY (AP) — Highway 1 near Ely is reopened, as officials continue to mop up hot spots around a forest fire.

Officials say the fire is now 90 percent contained. Residents who evacuated were allowed to return to their homes Saturday, and Highway 1 was reopened on Sunday morning.

Officials say the fire affected 175 acres. They suspect it started Thursday with a spark from a downed power line.

The area received 0.9 inch of rain overnight.

Fire information officer Jean Bergerson says because the situation is improving, some fire resources are being demobilized. About 130 people were working the fire on Saturday, but she expects that will be reduced to about 50 by Monday morning.
