Harriet was born on February 4, 1923 in Graham Township to Emil and Cecelia (Skaja) Petron. She married Willard “Bill” Hess on August 23, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park. They lived in St. Paul until 1949, moving to Little Falls, and then created their forever home in Sauk Rapids in 1955. Harriet worked as a job placement specialist for the State of Minnesota. After her husband’s retirement they traveled extensively together, finding adventure in Alaska, Jerusalem, China, Egypt, Rome, and throughout Europe. Harriet retained her energy and stamina even into her later years and loved to fish in Gull Lake and the Kenai River in Alaska. She walked strongly in her faith as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1955. Harriet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, John (Kathy) Hess of Cook, MN, Mark (Theressa) Hess of Bend, OR, Joel (Barbara) Hess of Ninilchik, AK, and Peter (Cindy) Hess of Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren, Corey, David, and Naomi Hess; and sister, Deloris Sauer of Melrose, MN.

Harriet is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 1993; son, Billy Hess; grandson, Danny Hess; brother, Alfred “Bucky” Petron; and sister, Marilyn McIntyre.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Ridgeview and Prairieview who have given their care and support to Harriet in her final years.
