Halloween Tailgating Events Growing

ST. PAUL (AP) - There's a new twist on Halloween trick or treating that seems to be growing in popularity. It's called 'trunk or treating' and is much like tailgating at your favorite sporting event.

Communities or churches in Minnesota are sponsoring the family friendly events which are staged in large parking lots. Participants decorate the trunk of their vehicles and pass out candy to costumed trick-or-treaters who make their way around the lot.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Burnsville recently held such an event in its parking lot. The church also had a bouncy house, games, crafts and a concession stand.

Downtown Red Wing had its fifth annual trunk-or-treat gathering last week. The Red Wing event now attracts about 2,000 people.
