ST. CLOUD - A group of St. Cloud residents are participating in a March Against Monsanto today, hoping to raise awareness on the company and genetically modified organisms (GMO's).

The group gathered in the basement of the Spirit of Life Church in downtown St. Cloud  before marching to Lake George and back. Cassie Herbst, an attendee of the march, says it's important to raise awareness and educate the public on GMO's:

Monsanto is a multinational agricultural company that produces seeds, herbicides, and other farming technologies. Monsanto has been the target of protests around the world due to its use of chemicals and GMO's.

Genetically modified organisms (GMO's) are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered through experimental combinations of genes from other species. Many nations in the world don't consider GMO's safe for consumption, and hold significant bans on them.

More information on GMO's can be found on this website.
