ST. PAUL  (AP) — Democrat Jim Graves says he doesn't expect competition from the Independence Party as he challenges Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's 6th District.

The hotel company chief executive filed campaign paperwork Thursday in St. Paul, saying he brings a business mindset and centrist approach to the race.

Independence Party candidates have deprived Democrats of a head-to-head race against Bachmann in her three races for Congress.

Bachmann is seeking a fourth term after an unsuccessful run for president.

Graves says he has support from Independence Party leaders and doesn't expect "any significant Independence Party people" to run. The deadline for candidates to get their name on the ballot is next Tuesday.
