ST. PAUL -- Governor Mark Dayton announced today (Friday) that October 22, 2016, will be recognized  as "Jacob Wetterling Day" in the state of Minnesota.

Wetterling was snatched from a rural St. Joseph road on Oct. 22, 1989. Earlier this month, Wetterling's remains were found. Danny Heinrich a person of interest in the abduction of  Wetterling, admitted to kidnapping, sexually assaulting and murdering Wetterling.

October 22, would have marked the 27th anniversary of his kidnapping. A community memorial service for Wetterling will take place this Sunday at the College of St. Benedict.
