The unranked Illinois FIghting Illini defeated #18 MInnesota 57-53 on Sunday evening in Minneapolis. The Gophers jumped out to a 13-2 advantage early in the game but trailed at the half 31-30.

The Gophers are now 17-7 this season overall after a 15-1 start to the 2012-13 campaign. The Illini (17-8) avenged an earlier loss to Minnesota in Champaign.

Austin Hollins led the Gophers with 16 points, and Trevor Mbakwe contributed 13 points and ten rebounds in the loss.

Tyler Griffey paced Illinois with 16 points off the bench, including 4-7 from behind the arc.
