Gopher Men’s Basketball Edges Virginia Tech

The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Virginia Tech 58-55 Wednesday night as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Williams Arena.  Minnesota was led by junior college transfer guard Julian Welch with 15 points including 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the final minute.  Rodney Williams added 14 points and 8 rebounds and freshman Elliott Eliason added 8 points and 7 rebounds for Minnesota.

The Gophers shot 50 percent from the field and turned the ball over just 9 times.  Minnesota is 7-1 and will host USC Saturday at 1:15pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 12:45.

The Big Ten beat the ACC in the challenge this year 8 to 4.
