Gopher Basketball Wins Season Opener; Travis Going to Stanford
The Gopher men's basketball team defeated Lehigh 81-62 at Williams Arena Friday night. Minnesota led 37-18 at halftime and cruised in the 2nd half. Minnesota was led by Joey King with 20 points off the bench, Andre Hollins added 18 points and Elliot Eliason added 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino earns his first win at the Gopher head coach. Pitino also announced that center Maurice Walker has been suspended 6 games for violating a team rule. The Gophers are 1-0 and will host Montana Tuesday night at 7pm, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan 6:30.
The Gophers got some bad news Friday afternoon when 5-star recruit Reid Travis announced that he'll be attending Stanford instead of Minnesota. The Gophers are the Cardinal were the 2 finalists for Travis.
