ST. CLOUD - What started out as a one woman crusade has turned into a full fledged movement here in the St. Cloud metro area. Arvis Stubbs started "Socks From The Soul" in 1998.

She says she first collected just socks for people who needed them.

What happened a few years ago I found out its not only socks. I ran into a person that said 'hey sock lady I got your socks". And I noticed his hands with my socks because he needed gloves. And there it was, not only the need for socks but gloves too.

Stubbs says she and her supporters now collect socks, hats, and mittens.

She collects them at drop off locations around town all year long. She says she stores the socks in the basement of her home. But, its gotten so big that she now has volunteers help her wrap them at the Boys and Girls Club. Then, she delivers them - wrapped in Christmas paper - to clients in the local chemical dependency treatment facilities during the Christmas season.
