Girls Basketball MVP Shares Award Plaque
MADISON, Minn. (AP) - The coach of the girls basketball team at Lac qui Parle Valley High School says he initially didn't believe his MVP when she told him what she wanted to do with her award plaque.
Ryan Giles is also the industrial arts teacher and helped pick Alaysia Freetly as the MVP this season. Giles says Freetly came to the wood shop with watery eyes and asked him to cut her plaque in three pieces. Freetly assured her coach she had given the matter plenty of thought, so Giles granted her wish.
Giles summoned his team to his classroom. Two other players with similar stats to Freetly were each awarded a piece of the plaque. One of those players, Kaitlin Connor, says everyone was shocked, then shock turned to tears and then to applause.
