Funeral Services will be 11 A.M. on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville for Gerrit J. VanderBeek, age 76, of Paynesville. Gerrit passed away February 9, 2016 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar after a short battle with cancer. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Gerrit was born August 22, 1939 in Brooten, MN to John and Catherine (Jansen) VanderBeek. He was the oldest of ten children. Gerrit was united in marriage to Marlene Harding on August 22, 1958 at the First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. They farmed for many years south of Lake Koronis after which he went to work full time at AMPI in Paynesville making cheese. He retired in August of 2012. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville for 57 years.

Gerrit enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, music, spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities.

Gerrit is survived by his wife Marlene; children Brian (Mary) of Roscoe, Diane (Mike) Keller of Paynesville, Carol (Mark) Spoden of Richmond, Jeffery (Susan) of Eden Valley and Angela (Justin) Braun of Paynesville; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Gerhardt (Dieanna) of Glenwood, Trina (Gene) Berg of Willmar, Henry (Joyce) of Gilman, Anna Hiltner of Wadena, Cathy Ziemann of Florida, John (fiancé Mary) of Richmond and Margaret (Jim) Knebel of Pillager.

Gerrit is preceded in death by his parents; grandson Ryan Keller; sisters Wihelmina French and Joanne VanderBeek and brother-in-law Jerome Hiltner.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
