George P. LaBelle, age 75 of Zimmerman passed away peacefully on October 16, 2014.

Preceded in death by his parents, Howard & Grace LaBelle, daughter, RaNae, sister, Faye Solonen, brother, Douglas.

Survived by wife Susan of Zimmerman, daughter, Sherri B. (Rob) Roman and their children and grandchildren, Daniel Paul, Sarah Paul, (her daughter, Vienna), Mary (Dustin) Williams, son Vance, step son, Jason (Alyssa) Phillippi and their children, Justin, Abigail and Andrea, RaNae’s daughter RaeAnne (Lucas) Stauffacher and their daughter, Søren. brothers, Roger (Donna), Brian, Danny (Ann).

George grew up on the farm in Rush City with four brothers and a sister. He owned his own business installing hardwood floors for over 40 years while he worked as a Minneapolis Fireman for over 30 years retiring in 1999. George married Susan in 1976 in Spring Lake Park. During their marriage they lived in Spring Lake Park, Ham Lake and moved to Zimmerman in 1994. George has thrived for decades in furious sports like auto and motorcycle drag-racing. He had a competitive spirit that motivated him to excel athletically in life. With his athletic gift, he accomplished numerous impressive awards in Track-n-Field, Drag Racing, Bowling, Weight lifting, Nordic skiing and shooting. He regularly attended competitive events throughout his life and has accumulated an amazing 9,800 awards, trophies, metals and ribbons. His accomplishments include 1994 Minnesota Athlete of the year award for track, 2007 Top athlete from Lower Brule reservation track meet, featured on KSTP sports news report, and made an appearance in Sports Illustrated in the 1980’s. George was an outstanding man who was larger than life. His all-time goal was to reach 10,000 awards before his 80th birthday.

Funeral services will be 2PM on Thursday October 23, 2014 at the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home at 205 South Rum River Drive in Princeton, MN. Visitation will be at 12 Noon-2PM at the funeral home before the service on Thursday.
