General Mills Opposes Marriage Amendment

ST. PAUL  (AP) - The leaders of one of Minnesota's largest companies say they are opposing a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in the state.

In a letter to employees and the public, Ken Charles, vice president of global diversity and inclusion, wrote the company doesn't believe the proposed ban is in the best interests of their employees or the state's economy.

General Mills spokesman Tom Forsythe says the company has worked for decades to create an inclusive culture for employees and believes Minnesota should as well.

The Corporate Fairness Project for the National Organization for Marriage has asked big employers in Minnesota not to take sides.

Executives from St. Jude Medical, RBC Wealth Management and Carlson Companies also have publicly opposed the proposal. It will be on the ballot in November.
