ST. CLOUD -- The rainy weather didn't stop members of the St. Cloud community today from gathering to dedicate the latest community art project.

Claire Witt is the artist of the Gateway sculpture. She says she got the idea walking by Northern Metal Recycling.

Funding for the sculpture was made possible thanks to grants from the Bremer Foundation, the City Arts Commission and the Central Minnesota Arts Board.

Once Witt received the pieces she needed to work with, the next step was to come up with a sculpture the community could relate to.

The sculpture is made up of all recycled pieces and took about a year and a half to complete.

Witt wanted to make something that was durable. She says seeing it finished, it's like watching your children grow up.

The twenty foot Gateway sculpture is located just off of East Saint Germain Street.
