COLD SPRING -- Since opening its doors in 1946, the Cold Spring Bakery has been a source of family tradition for decades keeping it frozen in time.

Co-owner, Lynn Schurman says families from all over the state will stop at the bakery when they are camping in the area and grab some fresh treats to bring back to the lake.

The bakery was originally opened by Mel Schurman who learned to be a baker during World War II when he was in the Navy.

In 1985 the bakery was bought out by his sons Dale Schurman and Bryan Shurman along with his daughter-in-law Lynn Shurman. In 1986 the store had about 40 employees. Today they have grown to more than 60.

They are considered a full-service bakery that supplies smaller stores and restaurants with fresh pastries and treats.

In addition to cookies and doughnuts the bakery also makes specialty cakes for all occasions. They compete in state and national cake decorating contests each year. Cake decorator, Marietta Vossen took silver in the 2013 Upper Midwest Bakery Association Convention for the Deco Cake Sugar Art Contest.

Lynn Schurman says even though they started out as a small town bakery they have aspirations to continue to grow and expand. They are currently looking to open a bakery in St. Cloud.
