UNDATED - Thousands of volunteers across the country -- including here in St. Cloud -- will be handing-out free books tonight (Tuesday).

The event is called "World Book Night", and is an effort to promote adult reading.

The Great River Regional Library has recruited more than 50 volunteers, who will share books at a variety of locations.  Each volunteer will receive 20 copies of one book to give away.

Tim Wright is one of those volunteers.  He says he'll be delivering his books to the Dream Center in St. Cloud.

The book Wright chose to hand out is "Population 485". Volunteers could choose from a list of books ranging from the classics to more contemporary books.

Nationally, more than 25,000 volunteers will give away a half-million books in more than 6,000 towns and cities across the country.
