Funeral services will be 10:30AM Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids for Fritz Hiltel who died Friday at his home with his family by his side. The Rev. Paul Cloeter and Rev. Harvey Ehlers will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8PM on Monday at the Williams Dingmann Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church in Sauk Rapids. Trinity Lutheran Church prayers will be at 7PM Monday at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Fritz was born in Minden Township (rural Benton County) to Fred & Alma (Abraham) Hiltel. He married Betty Jane Studenski on October 6, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Popple Creek. Fritz lived his entire life in rural Benton County. He farmed until 1965. He then worked for the State of Minnesota Highway Department for eighteen years before retiring in 1982. He is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids, and was an active member of the Sauk Rapids Sportsman’s Club. Fritz was a loving, caring, gentle, and out-going man, who loved his family very much. He loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at Gull Lake and camping up north in Blackduck. He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Sauk Rapids, children, Bruce (Marilyn) of Sauk Rapids; Kathleen (Jim) Stueve of St. Cloud; Beverly (Lloyd) Karls of Sauk Rapids; John of Sauk Rapids; sister, Irene Leech of St. Cloud, formerly of North St. Paul; grandchildren, Lee Ann Hiltel, Brian Hiltel, Nathan Stueve, Nicole (Nick) Peschl, Jessica (Tom) Herbst, Andrea (Joshua) Mumme, Lindsy (Justin) Hackett, Brittany (Will) Brennan, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
