ST. JOSEPH - Minnesota personality Joan Steffend is the special guest speaking this Friday at the annual "Women's Night Out" event.  The event runs from 5:00  until 9:00 p.m. at the College of St. Benedict.

Steffend says it's sort of a homecoming for her, because she grew up in the Cambridge area, and coming to St. Cloud was always a highlight for her and her family.

Steffend spent several years on KARE 11 TV in the Twin Cities as an anchor and reporter, winning a national Emmy Award along the way.

She eventually decided she wanted a job where she could be more creative and have more fun, which lead to her job as a host on HGTV.  Steffend hosted a show called "Decorating Cents" for 10 years.  She says she and her staff redecorated over 400 rooms during that time.

Steffend says she's always been interested in watching how people treat one another, which lead to her becoming an author.  Her latest book is titled "Peace In, Peace Out".  She has also started her own non-profit organization called "Peace Begins With Me".

Steffend says Friday's night's event will include a lot of laughter, and a question and answer session. She says she's willing to talk about anything from design, to her time at KARE 11, and more.

She say she basically wants everyone to leave on Friday night feeling better about themselves.
