STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota man who formerly taught in a western Wisconsin high school has been sentenced to four months in jail for having sex with two female students.

Thirty-seven-year-old Matthew Koenen of Stillwater apologized at his sentencing Wednesday, saying he was "very profoundly sorry."

Koenen pleaded guilty in September to two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

He admitted to having relationships with the Grantsburg High School students, who were 16 at the time.

One girl told the judge Wednesday she wanted to die in the months after Koenen persuaded her to have sex with him in his house in Stillwater while his wife was gone.

Defense attorney Tina Appleby told the court Koenen's actions resulted from medications and mental health problems, not evil intent.
