Former Mayor Pleads Guilty To Burglarizing Current Mayor
MONTEVIDEO (AP) - The former mayor of Watson has pleaded guilty under a deal with prosecutors to breaking into the current mayor's home in March.
Thirty-four-year-old Joseph Rongstad will be sentenced Dec. 13 on a felony charge of third-degree burglary. Prosecutors will drop other charges in that case and in an unrelated case in which Rongstad was accused of firing a rifle through the sunroof of his truck in February.
The cases against Rongstad had been suspended in June when an examination found him incompetent to proceed. A judge ordered Rongstad committed on the basis of mental illness and chemical dependency. The cases were reopened in September, and Rongstad pleaded guilty earlier this month.
