SARTELL -- The deadline to apply for a city council seat left vacant with the deployment of City Councilman David Peterson ended Monday. City Administrator Patti Gartland says a total of five people have submitted letters of interest.

Former Sartell Mayor Bob Pogatchnik and former St. Joseph Mayor and now-Sartell resident Al Rassier have indicated a willingness to serve.

Former Sartell council members Pat Lynch and Dennis Molitor have also volunteered.

The fifth and final candidate Mike Haehn is a Sartell resident who works for the St. Cloud HRA.

City Administrator Patti Gartland says the council is looking to appoint someone with experience because it is a short-term vacancy of only about seven months.

Councilman Peterson will be deployed overseas this fall as part of his military obligations.
