ST. CLOUD -- At 3:59 p.m. on the first Friday of Lent, the Eastside VFW looks pretty quiet. Once the door opens, a minute later, the people line the door ready for their favorite fish fry.

Post Commander Aaron Heusinkueld says this time of year things really pick up, and all money raised helps local veterans.

"During the Lent season we will hope to put out anywhere between 450 and 500 plates. When its not Lent we only serve about 120 plates."

The fish fry at the VFW is about more than observing Lent, it's also about bringing awareness to taking care of our veterans.

"Any surplus goes into the community and into different Veterans programs. The VA hospital and care centers will receive some of the money to help us take care of our Veterans.

The Eastside VFW will be serving fried and baked fish every Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout Lent.
