SAUK RAPIDS -- Halen's Hankies of Hope will be holding their first annual garage sale fundraiser at the American Legion, Post 254 tomorrow (Friday).

The non-profit organization sells hankies as a way to raise money for families affected by cancer.

The organization started after 15-year-old Halen Hirsch lost his battle with Acute Myloid Lukemia, a cancer that affects the blood.

It was his dream to someday get well and give back to the community. His mother, Melanie Tank is the organization's founder.

She says she started the organization after  her son passed as a way to turn a negative situation into a positive one.

Tank says when Hirsch was first diagnosed with cancer he decided to stay positive about it.

The garage sale fundraiser goes from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) and 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

All proceeds will be donated to families of those affected by cancer to cover expenses including gas, groceries, car repairs and more.
