MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Firefighters who pulled five children from a vehicle submerged in a St. Louis Park pond last year have been honored for their courage.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Department recognized the three men at a ceremony Thursday night. The firefighters braved frigid conditions to rescue the children from the vehicle that had careened into the pond on Nov. 21, 2013. Three of the five children survived.

Reports say the firefighters say they share the recognition with many others who help save lives that day, including police officers, state troopers, paramedics and medical staff.

The 23-year-old woman driving the car lost control on a wet road, overcorrected and slid into the pond.
