DASSEL - Authorities were able to rescue a family dog from a house fire in Dassel on Tuesday night.

The Meeker County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened at 10:20 p.m. in the 22300 block of 708th Avenue.

The Dassel Fire Department was first on scene and was able to contain the fire to one section of the home. The homeowners, Daniel Rothstein and Abby Leither, told firefighters that a dog was trapped in the house and they were able to get it out unharmed.

Rothstein and Leither were not hurt in the fire. The house was heavily damaged from the fire and smoke. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshall.
