Fire Burns Thousands Of Acres In Northern Minnesota Forest
WARROAD, Minn. (AP) - Fire crews have the upper hand on a fire that has burned thousands of acres in a northern Minnesota state forest.
The Palsburg Fire in Beltrami Island State Forest is considered 80 percent contained as of late Sunday morning, according to the Minnesota Incident Command System.
Cooler, wetter weather in the coming week is allowing firefighters to be released.
Reports say that while two ground crews will remain on duty, firefighting from the air has been called off.
Fire crews spent part of Saturday tending to hot spots in the forest, located about 15 miles south of Warroad.
The blaze began Wednesday and drew more than 120 fire personnel at one point last week. More than 4,000 acres has burned.
Numerous roads will remain closed in the area.
