MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A fatal crash closed Interstate 94 in downtown Minneapolis for the morning rush.

Authorities say a semi hauling used auto parts overturned inside the Lowry Hill tunnel just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The State Patrol says the truck was heading west on I-94 when it struck a light pole and rolled, fatally trapping the driver underneath, and spilling debris into the eastbound lanes.

Three vehicles were hit by debris, but no other injuries have been reported.

Authorities closed I-94 in both directions approaching the tunnel and detoured traffic onto city streets.

Traffic was backed up for miles in several directions.  The crash scene has been cleared and traffic is again flowing through the tunnel, both east- and westbound.
