Farmers Restocking Their Flocks as Bird Flu Winds Down

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Midwest poultry producers are growing turkeys again.

Minnesota lost 9 million turkeys and chickens to bird flu. Now, 37 of its farms have been cleared to restock.

Among the first is do so is Greg Langmo, of Litchfield. He says it feels good to be getting back to normal.

Iowa lost 34 million birds, mostly egg-laying chickens. Brad Moline of Manson is Iowa's first farmer cleared to restock and will begin doing so next Friday.

He says he hasn't been this excited about restocking turkeys since he got his first flock when he was a kid.

An update from the USDA on Friday says researchers still haven't nailed down exactly how the virus spreads.
