BECKER -- Back in 2013 we told you of a group aimed at getting kids interested in agriculture in Sherburne County. Today the Farm Friends Barn is closer in making that dream a reality.

Farm Friends Barn Board Chair Jean Johnson says while the project has been delayed they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The project, which began as Little Farm Hands, is designed to give kids a hands-on experience from the crop-growing process to selling your products at the market.

Johnson says they hope to attract many groups from not just Sherburne County but the surrounding counties as well.

The project began with Bill and Margaret Cox donating 220 acres near Becker - 40 of which is designated for agriculture use - to Sherburne County through a land trust, which is where Farm Friends Barn will be located.

Johnson says while they are still about a year away from the grand opening,  they are determined to make this project happen.

Farm Friends Barn was originally scheduled to open back in September.

They have raised about $30,000 of their $250,000 goal through the help of donations.
