Fans Gather On SCSU Campus to Cheer On Huskies [VIDEO, AUDIO]

ST. CLOUD – Hopes were high for St. Cloud State students as the Huskies took the ice in Pittsburgh.

The university was just one of four teams remaining in the chase for the crown of national champions.

Over 1,000 hopeful fans packed the Atwood Ballroom, enjoying free food, drinks and a lively atmosphere.

Prior to the game, attendees were nothing but smiles. Those smiles faded after a three goal first period by Quinnipiac.

Freshman Jake Gustafson was on hand to cheer on the Huskies. He says even though the season is ending for the team, it was an overall success.

The ballroom erupted with cheers when the team got on the board in the second period.

However, the team couldn’t get past the number one ranked Bobcats.

This was St. Cloud State’s first trip to the Frozen Four in school history.

The Huskies fell 4 to 1, ending a season that included a share of the McNaughton Cup.

Junior Jake Thomfohrda was hoping for a different outcome in the game. But he says seeing the campus alive with Husky spirit made this a great week.

Quinnipiac will now take on Yale in the national championship game Saturday night. Senior Captain Drew LeBlanc is still in the running for the Hobey Baker Award. That honor will be handed out Friday night.
