ST. FRANCIS (AP) - Family, friends and supporters of former U.S. Sen. Rod Grams are gathering to bid farewell to the Republican politician.

A funeral service for Grams was scheduled for Tuesday morning at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Francis. A visitation was held Monday night.

Grams died last week after a battle with cancer. He was 65.

Grams served Minnesota in the Senate from 1995 to 2001 and he was a member of the House for the two years before that.

His entry into politics followed a career in broadcast journalism, culminating with an anchor job at the Twin Cities FOX TV affiliate.
