SUMMARY:The Orphan Train Movement
DESCRIPTION:Between 1854 and 1929 an estimated 250\,000 children from New York City orphanages and city streets were loaded on trains and transported to small towns across the United States where potential adoptive parents awaited their arrival. The 20 children who came to St. Cloud in 1913 were but a small part of the largest migration of young people in American history\, The Orphan Train Movement. Please join us Wednesday\, Feb 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and listen to Bill Morgan tell us about this interesting time in history.  He brings with him one of those 20 children who came to St. Cloud\, Sister Justina Bieganek. This should prove to be a very informative presentation with great insight from Sister Justina. DESCRIPTION:Last summer\, St. Cloud was one of 12 cities in the state selected for a series of “Community Conversations” that were conducted as part of the League of Minnesota Cities’ initiative called “Cities\, Services\, and Funding: Broader Thinking\, Better Solutions.” Four conversations with city residents were held in each of the 12 cities. Now that the League has completed the conversations and is preparing to release a report of findings\, it has scheduled return visits to each city to thank participants and to present a summary of those findings to the community.
