Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Eugene “Gene” Lauer, age 73, who died Monday at the St. Cloud Hospital peacefully surrounded by family. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., Saturday morning in the church gathering space.

Gene was born in St. Cloud, MN to Edward and Alvina (Gau) Lauer. He married Lorraine Stang on February 7, 1966 in St. Wendelin, Luxemburg. Gene served in the Army from 1962-1965; being awarded a Sharpshooter and Marksman badge. He was a jack of all trades; he worked as a truck driver, instrumentation specialist and mason before finding his passion as a farmer. After retiring from farming he worked as a maintenance specialist and lastly alongside his son as an auto mechanic. He could design and build just about anything. He loved playing cards, taking trips out west, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; children, Michele (Jeff) Meyer, Joyce Lauer, LeAnn (Michael) Dietl, Kay (Eric) Iken, Jody (Dan) John, Eugene Jr. Lauer, Gary (Crystal) Lauer; brother, Richard (Sharon) Lauer and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Margie, Elmer, BeBe and Vera.

The family would especially like to thank Dr. Tom Leither, the physicians and staff at the St. Cloud Hospital for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
