Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Elvin “Smiley” Lieser, age 82, who died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at the St. Martin Parish Hall in St. Martin. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary with the St. Martin Fire Department, St. Joseph Society and Catholic United Financial. Visitation will continue from 11:00 – 1:30 p.m. Saturday morning at the parish hall.

Elvin was born in Zion Township, MN to Berthold and Arcella (Lenz) Lieser. He married Elnora Schaefer on June 20, 1956 in the St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin, MN. Elvin was a farmer and self-employed at Lieser Masonry for 50 years and was on the Board of Directors for the St. Martin National Bank. Elvin loved ice cream, baseball, fishing, bowling, softball, deer hunting, auctions, coffee and dice. He was a charter member of the St. Martin Fire Department, played for St. Martin Baseball team for 25 years and was a lifetime fan. Elvin was also a member of St. Joseph Society, Catholic United Financial and St. Martin Parish.

Survivors include his wife, Elnora; children, Donald Lieser, Ladonna (Paul) Rothstein, Carl (Ruth) Lieser; siblings, Vicky Hartmann, Marion (Stanley) Olmscheid, Anna (Leroy) Patrick, Verna (Norb) Kalthoff, Sister Jean Lieser, Dorothy Welle, Irene Bertram, Ralph (Sylvia) Lieser, Willie (Deanna) Lieser; sisters-in-law, Pat Carstens, Norine Lieser; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronny Lieser, Joey Lieser; brothers-in-law, Alvin “Bub” Hartmann, Junior Welle, Duane Bertram; granddaughter, Kim Lieser; grandson, Joseph Lieser and great-grandson, Isaac Lieser.
