Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Peace United Church, Long Prairie for Eloise Huyink, age 95, of Cannon Falls formerly of Long Prairie, who passed away on Friday at The Gardens at Cannon Falls Nursing Home. Pastor Gary Taylor will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Long Prairie.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home – Stein Chapel, Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Eloise Mae Stevenson was born September 27, 1920 in Silver Township of Cherokee County, Iowa to Clarence M. and Elsie (Untiedt) Stevenson and was raised in the Quimby, Iowa area. After graduation from high school at age 16, she moved to Long Prairie with her parents where they lived for three years and where she worked as a bookkeeper for Huber’s Meats.

During World War II she worked for the Pacific Finance Corp. in Los Angeles, CA, at Lowry Field Air Force Base in Aurora, CO, and in the IBM Dept. of Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, WA.She married Hubert B. “Hub” Huyink on June 12, 1944 after he returned from the Pacific Theater. They moved to El Paso, TX for the duration of the war, returning to Long Prairie in October 1945 to make their home. She then worked for the Civil Service Dept. and later for Hart Press (then Banta and now RR Donnelly).
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church (now Peace United Church, an honorary member of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, a 50-plus member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member and past district officer of the VFW Auxiliary. Over the years she was also active member of the Long Prairie Hospital Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Cancer Society, the Literary Club, the Christie Home Society, the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, gardening and playing the piano.
Eloise is survived by her son, David (Michelle) Huyink, Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Barbara Jean (David) Templin, Cannon Falls, MN; two sisters, Betty Fassler, Cleghorn, IA; and JoAnn Kirwan, Santa Ana, CA; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, Hubert and a sister La Vanche Huset.
Casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Adam Templin, Amy Flatten, Elizabeth Huyink Bolanos, Michael Huyink, Rebekah Huyink, and Stacy Judas. Obituary and on-line guestbook available at Williams Dingmann
