Memorial Mass will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Upper Church for Elmer C. Ahmann who passed away peacefully surrounded with the love and support of family and friends both near and far helping to usher him into his next journey on August 8th, 2014. Friends and relatives may call after 12:00 PM until the time of services on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Upper Church. Please join the family for a time to reflect and share stories of love and laughter regarding Elmer.

Elmer was born on July 17th, 1936 in St. Cloud and lived a full life until passing. He graduated high school from Cathedral in 1955 and served 2 years in the US Army stationed for 18 month of his service in Alaska. He met his wife to be Marlys Joy Vavricka while they were both out separately with friends at a local dance club. The two were married, November 21st, 1964. Children, Kimberly and Andrew were born from that marriage and were the center of his world. His love and guidance as a Father will remain in their hearts forever. Throughout his life he enjoyed the outdoors and any activity that brought him closer to nature; horseback riding, waterskiing, boating and swimming, focusing on fishing and hunting as children entered his life. He was especially fond of hunting and trips to Canada for fishing with his son. He was known for his relaxed attitude and patience often using the word “whatever” to stress he was fine with whatever choice others had. His selfless acts of kindness and generosity will be remembered by all.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers and is survived by his Wife, Marlys, children Kimberly and Andrew, 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and several sisters, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. His 42 year career at the Cold Spring Granite Company emphasized his dedication and support to his family and his dedication to career reveals his willingness to stay with things even through times of struggle, something he instilled in his children as well.

His family is indebted to the VA Hospice Nursing staff for their care and support through his final time.
