Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Edgar E. Traut, 86, of Sartell will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell. Edgar passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Edgar fought a long and courageous 47 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Reverend Timothy Baltes will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday both at the St. Francis Xavier Gathering Space. Parish prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a military ritual led by the St. Cloud Eastside VFW #4847 Tuesday in the gathering space. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Edgar was born on January 4, 1930 in St. Cloud to the late Edward and Mary (Pierskalla) Traut. He attended Le Sauk Township Country School. Edgar was united in marriage to Kathleen “Kitty” Supan on June 18, 1952 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in St. Stephen. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and served until 1955. Upon return, Edgar and Kitty farmed and raised eight children in Sartell. Edgar was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, St. Cloud Eastside VFW #4847, St. Cloud American Legion #76 and the Moose Lodge #1400.

Edgar enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting tractors, painting ceramics and above all spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving and courageous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a true example of strength and perseverance.

Edgar is survived by his children, Thomas (Loretta “Lollie”) of Sartell, Michael (Lois) of Princeton, Karlene “Traut” Carruth of Sartell, Dennis (Renee) of Sartell, Gary (Linda) of St. Cloud, Ronald (Lori) of St. Cloud, Rodney (Lynn) of Sartell, Joseph (Jane) of Sartell; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Floyd (Margaret) Traut of Sartell; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Kitty on March 30, 2016; brothers, twin Edwin “Bill”, Firmin and Cyril Traut; and sister, Evelyn Traut.
