ORR, Minn. (AP) - Authorities in northeastern Minnesota say a 27-year-old Duluth man has died after becoming ill while hiking a remote trail in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

The St. Louis County sheriff's office got a medical emergency call about the man just after 6 p.m. Monday. But by the time rescuers arrived, the man was already dead.

The man and two other friends had been hiking the Sioux Hustler Trail since Friday. The victim fell ill during the hike and by Monday was unable to continue. Another man in the group hiked out and called for help.

The cause is death is pending an autopsy, but authorities say it does not appear suspicious. The victim's name was not released.

The area of the BWCA, near Lower Pawness Lake, is remote wilderness.
