Duluth Downtown Street Flooded

DULUTH (AP) – Thousands of gallons of water flooded a street in downtown Duluth and seeped into some nearby businesses.

Police, firefighters and public works employees worked to keep drivers away from the area Tuesday afternoon after an old water main burst, sending a torrent of water down Superior Street.

Water manager Howard Jacobsen says the breakage was probably caused when the ground shifted around the aging pipe, causing it to crack.

Water seeped into the Minnesota Power building, but no major damage was expected.
