Dorothy “Dot” J. McConnell, Sauk Rapids, 89

Funeral Services will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids for Dorothy “Dot” McConnell, age 89, who passed away Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids after a long battle with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Rev. Donald Wilke will officiate and burial will be at Maine Prairie Cemetery, Kimball at a later date. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Dorothy “Dot” was born in St. Cloud on August 3, 1925 to George & Florence (Lawler) Stanley. Dot attended St. Cloud Tech High School. She married John McConnell on May 7, 1942. She farmed in her early years and later enjoyed designing and finishing new homes with her husband John. As the years passed they moved to Lake Carnelian near Kimball for retirement. She enjoyed crafting wood hangings, fishing, cooking, gardening, and especially her dog, Muffin.

She will join John in his eternal life. She leaves behind children, Douglas (Marge) McConnell and Susan (Curt) Thering both of St. Cloud, and Debra McConnell of Prior Lake; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John on Oct. 2, 1998; daughter, Laurie on May 16, 1996; granddaughter, Shannon McConnell; brother, Russell Stanley; and sister, Helen McConnell.

The family would like to thank the Good Shepherd Community, especially Memory Lane, for their many years of dedicated service to Dot. Many thanks to St. Croix Hospice for Mom’s final days.

The family prefers memorials to the Tri County Humane Society or Good Shepherd Gardens.
