MANKATO, Minn. (AP) - Authorities are trying to find the origin of a human bone discovered by a dog near a Mankato subdivision.

The dog found the bone over the weekend. An anthropology professor at Minnesota State, Mankato determined the bone is human. Authorities don't know if the bone came from a man or a woman, or how old it is.

Blue Earth County sheriff's Capt. Rich Murry says the bone was sent to the Ramsey County medical examiner's office for an examination. Those results will be turned over to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
Murry says a ground crew consisting of two police dogs, 31 searchers and two snowmobilers combed the area Wednesday but found nothing.
