UNDATED -- The Minnesota DNR is asking boaters to take some extra time this holiday weekend to make sure boats and equipment are clean going in, and coming out of lakes and rivers to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

"Clean In, Clean Out" zones are stenciled in many of the state's water accesses.

The DNR reminds you that you must clean your watercraft and trailers of aquatic plants, drain all water and keep drain plugs out during transport and dispose of unwanted bait in the trash, not in the lake.

During the holiday weekend, boat landings will be busier than normal and the DNR is asking for everyone to exercise patience.
