UNDATED -- The Minnesota DNR is trying to get the word out now to sign up for firearms safety education classes. DNR Hunter Education Coordinator Mike Hammer says instructors are calling in and setting up spring training classes now.

Hammer says this is the time to get your son or daughter registered because the classes fill quickly.

Anyone born after December 31st, 1979 must take a DNR safety training course and receive a certificate of completion before buying a license for big or small game.

Hammer says every year hopeful hunters wait until the last minute and find out the classes are full.
