UNDATED -- The Minnesota DNR is asking homeowners to complete open burning now while there is still some snow on the ground.

Spring burning restrictions will go into effect soon and the DNR says now is the safest time to burn.

According to the DNR, most of the wildfires occur during April and May before grass and other vegetation "green-up".

While there is no permit required from the DNR, you must check with your city, county or township before burning.
