MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Authorities say a new look at DNA and physical evidence led to the arrest of a man in connection with a fatal stabbing in Minneapolis 27 years ago.

Police say the 56-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of 20-year-old Belinda Thompson. She was found stabbed to death on Dec. 19, 1991, in the bedroom of her south Minneapolis apartment. The suspect was 29 at the time and was believed to have been an acquaintance of her boyfriend.

He hasn't been formally charged.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Jill Sanborn says authorities are in a position to hold Thompson's alleged killer responsible.

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo says the arrest shows authorities will never give up on these cases.
