ST. CLOUD - The Diocese of St. Cloud is celebrating its 125th anniversary on Sunday. There's a Mass at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown St. Cloud. That will be followed by a picnic supper on the church grounds.

Director of Communications Joe Towalski says it's a day to honor the people from the past.

Towalski diversity will be a key theme to the service.

Pope Leo XIII (the 13th) established the St. Cloud Diocese on September 22nd, 1889. It's named after St. Cloud, a sixth-century saint who abandoned his royal heritage and became a priest in the town known today as Saint Cloud, France.

The diocese is over 12,000 square miles, in more than 16 central Minnesota counties. It has 131 parishes, with a combined Catholic population of more than 145,000 people.
