SAUK RAPIDS - Sauk Rapids is moving forward on a plan to develop 17 acres of land in the Industrial Park East.

The city council this (Monday) evening voted unanimously to waive an assessment fee for the construction of a new road.

The Sauk Rapids Housing and Redevelopment Authority is buying the land, and has agreed to build the road.  But, the deal was contingent on no assessments.

The land is just to the north of Nahan Printing, and the road will be built between County Road 1/Mayhew Lake Road Northeast and 13th Avenue Northeast.

Community Development Director Todd Schultz says the total cost of the project is about $1.6 million.  The road is expected to be built in either 2014 or 2015.  The HRA would then hope to attract one or more businesses to build on the land.
