SAUK RAPIDS -- A Benton County Sheriff's deputy interrupted what appeared to be a burglary in progress early Saturday morning.

The deputy was on routine patrol at about 3:00 a.m. when he noticed two men dressed in black at Aspen Storage in northeast Sauk Rapids. As the deputy tried to talk to the men they fled on foot.

The officer caught up with one of the men, 37-year-old Robert Newport of St. Cloud.

A police dog was called in to track the other man, 51-year-old Tony Lukaswicz, who was found and arrested a short time later.

Deputies found a backpack containing burglary tools and methamphetamine on Lukaswicz.

They are being held on suspicion of drug possession, possession of burglary tools and fleeing police.
